As a first joint action, the Wervel Cerrado team took the initiative to create a Cerrado citizen Manifest. The aim is to ensure the free trade agreement between the EU and the Mercosur countries is transparant and includes essential saveguards for people and ecosystems, and to inform policy-makers of the impact the agreement could have in the Cerrado.
Belgian and Brazilian scientists, farmers, civil society organisations and industry will be invited to sign the Manifesto and make a joint call to halt deforestation in the Cerrado.
